What is a Collection ?
Collections are like folders for your recommendations e.g. Restaurants, Books, Travel destinations etc. You organize your recommendations into collections so it’s easier for others to find them. E.g.
How do you name a collection?
When naming a collection, the more specific the name the better. That way other users can easily understand what your recommendations are about.
If your collection is location specific, it’s good convention to include the name of the city name in the collection. So instead of naming your guide “Brunch Spots”, name it “Miami Brunch Spots”.
What does Following mean ?
Following means you are following recommendations. There are two entities you can follow:
- You can follow a person: By following a person you automatically follow all of their collections, including any collections they create in the future. If you want to follow most of the collections a person creates but not all, then you can follow that person and unfollow the specific collections you are uninterested in.
- Follow a collection: By following a collection you’re keeping up with all the things a user recommends in that particular collection. Use this option if you don’t want to follow everything a person recommends but you want to follow only specific collection.
Clicking on the little orange heart is your way of saying you “like” that recommendation and saying “thank you” to the user for posting it. After you “like” a recommendation, it is posted to your feed so your followers also see the recommendation. In addition the user who posted the recommendation gets a warm and fuzzy email notification (if they have not disabled their notifications) telling them that you appreciate their recommendation and thank them for it!
Absolutely. You can save recommendations into different “bucket” lists
For e.g. you can create “books I want to read” or “steak restaurants in Atlanta I want to try” or “products I want to buy”. This way you can store all the recommendations you want to try.
